Street of the Knights
If you walk through the old city of Rhodes you will feel like a knight yourself. The old streets which are paved with small pebbles that light up in the sun and the impressive buildings and old crests of many European countries that used to have a headquarter located here. Especially the street of the knights is a must see. This 600-meter long street is renovated with the original pebbles and is surrounded by the different offices (inns) of the seven countries that represent the Knights of St John in the 16th century.
If you like photography, make sure you shoot a few pictures in the street of the knights at sunset. You will love the sunlight shining through the gate at the top, down on the shiny pebbles. We used the app ‘golden hour’ to make sure that we arrived at the perfect time in the street of the Knights and we were not the only one.
As you can imagine there are lots of guided tours that walk through the old city and they all stop at the street of the knights. A guided tour can be interesting to do, but if you want to visit the street on your own and avoid the crowd do it in the late afternoon or in the evening when the old town is illuminated fairy-like. And in your imagination, you can even hear the knights passing through the streets.
